Turmeric & Curcumin
In recent years, many foods and herbs used historically as medicines have been investigated for further roles in treating illnesses.
One traditional treatment that has received a lot of attention is turmeric. A member of the ginger family, turmeric has been used as part of traditional medicine in India for centuries.
An important part of Ayurveda medicine, turmeric has been used in the treatment of inflammation, skin wounds and liver disorders. It has also been used to treat stomach upsets, ulcers and coughs.
About curcumin
Curcumin is one of the active parts of turmeric and it has been widely studied in recent years in helping to treat disease.
Particular attention has been paid to curcumin’s potential role in treating diseases related to inflammation, particularly bowel disorders.
Some of the other areas of study include irritable bowel syndrome, osteoarthritis and gastric ulcers. Some of the results have been very promising and has resulted in curcumin being used more widely.
